The DGFT (Directorate General of Foreign Trade) has launched a new mandatory CHIMS registration for importers in India importing several electronic and electrical goods such as Integrated Circuits, processors, etc. This registration is in effect from 01.10.2021 and applies to all the Import of Integrated Circuits shall require compulsory registration under the Chip Import Monitoring System (CHIMS) as per DGFT Notification No. 05/2015-2020 dated 10.05.2021.
Under the same DGFT Notification, the import policy of all Integrated Circuits was revised from ‘Free’ to ‘Free subject to compulsory registration under Chip Import Monitoring System (CHIMS)’. This system is designed to gather comprehensive data regarding the imports of Integrated Circuits.
CHIMS not only helps in collection of the data regarding import of electronic and electrical products (including integrated circuits, processors, etc.) but also helps in analysis of the data thereby streamlining the process of policy making. In addition, it helps in getting real-time information that helps monitoring the imports into the country.
